An upholsterer based near La Roche-sur-Yon, CZ Atelier specialises in the creation and restoration of custom-made armchairs and other furniture in the Vendée. Whether you're a professional or an individual, we put our expertise and passion to work for your interior design.
Upholstering is an age-old craft, with techniques handed down from generation to generation. However, at CZ Atelier, we like to combine the skills of yesteryear with the developments of our time.
For example, when refurbishing furniture, we opt for foam upholstery instead of the horsehair used in traditional upholstery. This soft, modern material gives us greater flexibility in terms of shape, for a more original result without compromising the comfort or durability of the furniture.

Refurbishing antique or modern furniture
Would you like to revamp or restore a seat, high chair, sofa or any other piece of upholstered furniture? At CZ Atelier, we give your furniture a new lease of life through quality craftsmanship. Whatever the type of furniture, modern or antique, we give it the same care.
In the case of period pieces, such as a Voltaire armchair, a bergère or a Louis XV cabriolet, we take great care to respect the original piece of furniture, restoring it to its former charm.
We start by removing the upholstery and cleaning the carcass from top to bottom: dusting, patina, polishing, etc. When the woodwork needs restoring, we call on the services of qualified carpenters and cabinet-makers from the Vendée. In their hands, the structure is restored to its former glory. The furniture is then returned to the workshop to be renovated according to the rules of the trade.
SANGLAGE
The 'floor' of the seat is reconstructed using hessian straps.
LAYING FOAM
We use an agglomerated foam profile to provide the stiffness and shape of the old quilting. We then apply several high-quality foams (Bultex, PUHR) of different densities to achieve the desired shape and comfort.
WHITENING
We stretch a white cotton cloth over the upholstery and stitching to give the seat its final shape before laying the fabric.
COVER
This stage consists of covering the upholstery with the chosen piece (fabric, leather, velvet, imitation leather, etc.). We make sure that the patterns or stripes are perfectly placed for a harmonious result, then fix the cover in place with seeds or staples.
FINISH
Finally, the staples are replaced with decorative nails or covered with braid, piping or fringe, depending on the desired look.

Driven by ecological and responsible values, we favour Made In France and sustainable solutions wherever possible, such as high-quality upholstery fabric or recycled materials.
We keep ourselves informed about the origin, manufacturing methods and colouring of fabrics, so that we can help you make the best choices for your furniture.
What's more, all our seats are designed to be repairable, and we offer removable covers for ease of maintenance.
